Smiling & Angry Card, Orange
One face from a family of feelings, each named after a Japanese onomatopoeia: grinning, smirking, sobbing or fuming. This one is cut from bold orange washi on a large square card, its expression simple enough for a child to read at a glance.
The eyes are cut out, so you can hold the card up like a mask before handing it over. Write a message on the back and it becomes a birthday card that doubles as a game.
Features
Japanese is rich in onomatopoeia for feelings, such as nikoniko for a beaming smile and punpun for a huff of anger. This series turns those words into faces made from washi collage.
The card itself is Mino washi from Gifu, with the face pasted on by hand in Awa washi from Tokushima.
