"Seven Lucky Gods" Nishikisai Maneki Neko
In Japan, the Seven Lucky Gods, Shichifukujin, have long been welcomed at New Year as bringers of prosperity, longevity and happiness. Here Yakushigama gives them a playful turn, pairing the seven gods with the maneki neko, the beckoning cat that has invited good fortune and good company into homes and shops since the Edo period. Arrange them along a shelf or by the entryway to greet the year with a full house of luck.
Features
Yakushigama is the ornament brand of Chugai Toen, a ceramics studio in Seto, Aichi Prefecture, known for zodiac figures, beckoning cats and seasonal decorations with a modern Japanese sensibility.
The set of seven figures is finished in nishikisai, the brand’s colourful painted decoration. At just over 3 cm tall each, they are small enough to tuck into a corner of any room, and make a cheerful gift for the New Year or a new beginning.
