DUO Kobachi, Sake Cup
Description
There is something playful about the colours in DUO. Even before a drink is poured, the overlapping layers of glass create the impression of liquid already resting inside. As light passes through, the colours deepen and shift, giving the little cup a different appearance from every angle.
Its gently flared shape fits naturally into the ritual of sharing sake. Set a few around the table, perhaps in different colours, and they become part of the pleasure of gathering with friends.
Features
Known in Japan as a choko, this small vessel is traditionally used for serving sake. Its compact form also lends itself to presenting small dishes or accompaniments at the table.
True to its name, DUO brings together two overlapping layers of glass. The colours are incorporated through a handcrafting technique, creating a sense of depth and delicate gradation within an otherwise simple form.
First introduced in 1996, DUO has become one of Sghr Sugahara's long-standing designs. Its enduring appeal lies in the balance between a straightforward silhouette and the expressive possibilities of layered glass.
