Postcard - Spring & Summer
Plum blossoms with a nightingale, horsetails and a butterfly, wisteria, swallows, a frog beneath a willow, a sparkler fizzing in the dark: ten small scenes that follow the Japanese year from the first thaw to the height of summer.
Each is pieced together from coloured washi, so the picture has a soft, layered surface you can feel under your fingertips. Send one as the season turns, or prop it on a shelf and swap it for the next.
Features
Kyoto Karasuma Rokushichido is the stationery brand of Uemura Paper, a Kyoto paper merchant founded in 1912. The name comes from its home on Karasuma Street, between Rokujō and Shichijō.
Each card is made in harie, a paper collage technique: shapes cut from washi are pasted by hand onto a card of Echizen washi, with most pictures built from Awa washi from Tokushima.
