Kaga Mizuhiki Lucky Envelope – Horse
A golden horse gallops across this small square envelope, its mane and legs tied from fine mizuhiki cord. Made for 2026, the Year of the Horse, it turns a New Year gift of money into something worth keeping.
Pochibukuro are the little envelopes used in Japan for otoshidama, the money given at New Year, and for small thank-yous throughout the year. Tuck in coins or a folded note for a birthday, a celebration or a quiet word of thanks.
Features
Mizuhiki is a cord made from twisted washi paper, long used in Japan to tie and decorate gifts. Around a century ago, Sokichi Tsuda of Kanazawa began shaping it into three-dimensional figures rather than flat knots, founding the style known as Kaga Mizuhiki. His studio, Tsuda Mizuhiki Origata, is now in its fifth generation.
The horse is tied entirely by hand, the cord bent and looped so that the figure seems to move, head raised and legs stretched out. Because each one is made individually, size and shape vary slightly from piece to piece.
