"Shōfuku" Nishikisai Twelve Zodiac Animals
Each New Year in Japan belongs to one of the twelve animals of the zodiac, and the cycle turns from one to the next year by year. Yakushigama gathers all twelve in this shōfuku decoration, its name a wish to invite good fortune in. Whichever animal your year or your birthday falls under, it has a place here, making it a thoughtful New Year gift for a whole family.
Features
Yakushigama is the kiln name of Chugai Toen, a ceramics studio in Seto, Aichi Prefecture, known for zodiac figures, beckoning cats and seasonal decorations with a modern Japanese sensibility.
The set of twelve figures is finished in nishikisai, the brand’s colourful painted decoration. Each is only a few centimetres tall, small enough to line up on a narrow shelf or windowsill.
