Postcard - Sky & Sea
Birds above, creatures below. Five cards look to the sky, with a seagull, a nightingale, a pheasant, an owl and an eagle, and five to the sea: a whale, a tuna, a flying fish, an octopus and a hermit crab carrying its borrowed shell.
The shapes are simple and bold, cut from bright washi and laid onto a soft, fibrous card. They make cheerful notes for a child, an angler, or anyone who misses the coast.
Features
The sea designs picture Japan's coastal life in coloured washi set on a base of Echizen washi, from one of the country's long-established papermaking regions.
Behind the brand is Uemura Paper, which has supplied Kyoto with paper since 1912. Its stationery line, launched in 2016, pieces together washi from several regions of Japan by hand.
