"Laugh Away Evil" Sheep with Hamaya Arrow, Large
A hamaya is the sacred arrow handed out at Japanese shrines at New Year, said to drive away misfortune for the year ahead. Ryukodo's sheep for 2027 carries one with a hearty laugh, as if bad luck stands no chance against good humour. At this larger size, it holds its own on a shelf or beside the front door through the New Year season.
Features
Like Ryukodo's other zodiac figures, it is covered in chirimen, the softly crinkled crepe used for Japanese ornaments, here made from rayon crepe.
Each one is finished by hand, so the expression and texture vary slightly from piece to piece.
