"Fuka" (Flowers in the Wind) Sake Glass by Junichi Nabetani, Master of Traditional Crafts
A small cup for cold sake, cut all over with chrysanthemums. Round cuts are set into the chrysanthemum chain, a pattern known as tama-giku tsunagi, and the yellow casing turns each one into a tiny flower in bloom.
It holds about 60 ml, a few slow sips at a time, and brings a festive feeling to the table, whether for a celebration or a quiet evening at home.
Features
Designed and cut by Junichi Nabetani, a certified traditional craftsman of Edo kiriko, the cut-glass craft of Tokyo in which patterns are ground into the surface by hand.
The cup is made from KAGAMI's colour-cased crystal, a thin layer of coloured crystal over clear. Where the cuts break through the yellow, the clear crystal below shines bright and gives the pattern its contrast.
