Depicting a stylized Mount Fuji bathed in the glow of a vibrant red sun, the piece showcases the bold "Kutani Gosai" colour palette through its brilliant turquoise glaze and striking scarlet overglaze. The visible "kannyu" (fine crackle patterns) in the glaze and the intentionally rough, earthy texture of the exposed clay base highlight the organic warmth characteristic of Yamazaki's work.
Yamazaki brings her signature storybook charm to the "Kagamimochi" (the traditional Japanese New Year decoration consisting of two stacked rice cakes topped with a bitter orange), cultural symbol, utilizing a striking contrast between a deep, inky black base and a creamy, textured white glaze for the mochi itself. The small citrus on top is rendered with a pop of sunny yellow and a finely detailed green leaf, showcasing the meticulous hand-painted linework and vibrant palette of the modern Kutani style.
