"Shōfuku" Nishikisai Twelve Zodiac Animals with Tiered Stand
In Japan, each year is watched over by one of the twelve zodiac animals, and the cycle moves on, one animal at a time. In this shōfuku arrangement, named for the wish to invite good fortune, Yakushigama brings all twelve together in a tiered display, in the manner of a traditional dan-kazari. It makes an easy centrepiece for New Year, and stays meaningful all year round.
Features
Yakushigama is the kiln name of Chugai Toen, a ceramics studio in Seto, Aichi Prefecture, known for zodiac figures, beckoning cats and seasonal decorations with a modern Japanese sensibility.
The twelve figures are finished in nishikisai, the brand’s colourful painted decoration. Set out in tiers, they read as a small procession, with every family member able to find their own animal among them.
