Mizuhiki is a cord of tightly twisted washi paper, traditionally tied around gifts to carry good wishes. Around a century ago in Kanazawa, Sokichi Tsuda, founder of Tsuda Mizuhiki Origata (加賀水引 津田), began shaping these cords into three-dimensional figures rather than flat knots, founding the style known as Kaga Mizuhiki. The workshop is now in its fifth generation.
In 2013 the studio launched knot, a line that brings its traditional tying techniques into everyday objects. Every figure is tied by hand, loop by loop, so no two are quite the same.
Mizuhiki has always been about intention: a cord tied around a gift to carry a wish to the person receiving it. Tsuda's work keeps that meaning intact while making it light enough for an ordinary day, the kind of tradition we love to bring into the home.
