SHODA Harumi (庄田春海) is a celebrated contemporary Japanese ceramicist from Ishikawa Prefecture who has revitalized traditional "Kutani ware” by infusing it with a modern, whimsical sensibility.

After honing her craft at the Ishikawa Prefectural Kutani Pottery Technical Training Institute and the prestigious Kutani Kosen Kiln, she established her own studio, where she became known for her signature "Black Kutani" style—a matte black finish contrasted with vibrant, nature-inspired motifs such as birds, flowers, and playful animals.

Her work successfully bridges the gap between centuries-old craftsmanship and functional daily use, trading the formal rigidity of classic Kutani for a warmer, more approachable aesthetic that emphasizes "gentle beauty" in the modern home.
