blue-white-cup-mist
Blue & White Cup – Mist

A wide band of misty blue fills the top of this cup, crossed by fine dark crackle lines like bare branches against a winter sky, before it softens into a snowy white base. Hold it up to the window and the blue glows like the last light of a cold afternoon.

The rim flares gently outward for an easy sip of chilled sake or cold tea.

Features

Daisaku Hashimura is known for crackled glass that moves away from smooth transparency, using a careful process of cooling and reheating to break up the surface into textures like ice or lace. Here that texture is layered over opaque white, so the scene changes as light passes through the upper band.

Each piece is hand-blown at Glass Studio 206, the studio Hashimura runs with his wife, glass artist Nomichi Hashimura, in Kamakura. This is a one-of-a-kind cup; its pattern of crackle is not repeated on any other.

Specifications

Material: Glass

Artist: Daisaku Hashimura

Handcrafted

Limited

Made in Japan

Care

Made for cold drinks only; please do not pour in hot liquids.

Please Note

The matching Blue & White Pitcher and Blue & White Cup – Ridge are sold separately.
