Working primarily with handblown glass, she transforms simple forms into expressive objects through soft silhouettes, translucent hues, and subtle variations that reveal the maker's touch. Her work ranges from drinking vessels and bowls to vases and decorative objects, each carrying a sense of warmth, spontaneity, and individuality.

Drawing inspiration from both contemporary living and nostalgic forms, Kawakami's pieces often feature vibrant colour combinations and gentle proportions that bring a sense of joy to the table. Rather than treating glass as a purely decorative medium, she creates objects designed to be lived with—pieces that interact beautifully with water, flowers, food, and natural light throughout the day.

What makes her work particularly appealing is the balance between craftsmanship and playfulness. The transparency of glass becomes a canvas for shifting reflections and layered colours, allowing each piece to change subtly depending on its surroundings. Whether used as functional tableware or displayed as a sculptural object, her work invites curiosity and delight while retaining the quiet elegance characteristic of Japanese craft.

Little fragments of yellow, blue, green and violet are sealed inside clear glass, like flower petals, sea glass or confetti suspended in water.
